Software quality assurance for rail and rolling stock

Software in rolling stock, in signalling and control systems and in operational systems is subject to EN 50128 and EN 50716 – every change to the verification process must be evidenced. Loyal Team supports requirements management, test management and test automation within this framework and brings in AI tools only where their results can be substantiated.

Typical challenges

  • Safety-relevant software in rolling stock, signalling and control systems and operational systems: development and verification follow the phases of the standard, and deviations must be justified and documented.
  • Traceability from requirement through design to test case and test result – across variants, fleets and long life cycles.
  • Tool qualification: every tool that produces or influences verification results needs a classification and evidence of its suitability.
  • Evidence for changes: whoever adapts the verification process, for instance with new tools, must demonstrate equivalence – to safety managers and assessors.

Regulation & standards

EN 50128 and its successor EN 50716 (software for railway applications), embedded in EN 50126 and EN 50129 (RAMS and safety case); requirements quality per ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148, test process per ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119. We document so that an assessor can follow the path from requirement to verification result.

What we do

1 · Requirements quality

Checking requirements against ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148 and the specification’s own rules: unambiguous, verifiable, free of contradictions. Traceability down to the test case, so every check stays assigned to a requirement. Our free tool RequiCheck gives a first impression.

2 · Test management and test process

Test strategy, test completion criteria, reviews and inspections along the phases of the standard – with documentation an assessor can follow. Test management also as an interim role when a project needs an experienced test lead.

3 · AI tools with evidence

Generating requirements and test artefacts with mandatory evidence per requirement, repeated runs with a stability ratio and a trajectory log, so it remains traceable how a result came about. Tool class and qualification are agreed together with the customer’s safety manager.

The existing verification process remains unchanged and uncut. AI tools provide proposals; verification stays with people.

Why Loyal Team

Structure and risk-based testing for safety-relevant systems; senior lead, accredited for ISTQB®, recognised by IREB®, audit-ready methodology. Approval and safety case remain with the bodies responsible for them – we deliver the test work and the documentation they rely on.

Seminars for rail teams

Testing with generative AI to the official syllabus: ISTQB® CT-GenAI, accredited via the GTB. Foundations and test leadership: ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level and CTAL Test Management. All seminars also in-house with examples from your project.
